The workshop overall was incredibly helpful. The fact that there were guys that are professionals from a set working with us gave me a lot of confidence and support in being able to ask them any questions I’ve had in my mind for a few months. HD DSLR Workshop taught me more in a month than i have learned in the last 10 years working as a union second assistant cameraman , and film loader. Gale Tattersall is one of the greats of all time in the industry and it is an absolute privilege and honor to have the opportunity to work for and learn from such a talented cameraman and wonderful human being. Countless thanks to you Mr. Gale Tattersall I am learning so much at The DSLR Workshop down to small details and adjustments I never would have gotten from a book. Gale is an excellent teacher and motivator. Also the contacts I am making are invaluable. Thanks Gale. I was focused and engaged the entire 10 hours. Gale’s wisdom, experience, passion, and clear dedication to helping others, carried over to the entire staff. I felt a part of something exciting. Laura had everything efficiently organized. The setup and catering were thoughtful and first class. Most important, I learned a lot and continue to think, practice and research what we covered the first day. Justin did an excellent job of keeping the day on track. He has a great energy that contributes to the excitement and focus. The mixture of video, lecture, instruction and shooting practice was excellent. The price is very fair. At approx. $30 per hour, it is comparable to the cost of the local UCLA Extension and Julia Dean photography classes – both of which never include refreshment and food.Mimi Fuenzalida
Showing us the light set-up was also quite helpful with the large screen projecting in real time what they were doing.
I think the first weekend there were groups with different instructors (each person had a camera) and not all the instructors were directing their groups to do the different exercises with the camera. That is my only critique..I felt we needed to be directed and told equally in each group to do the different exercises (like following focus when a person is moving, then shoot with shallow depth of field, etc…)
Having each student shoot and then watch on large screen what each one of us shoot was so important as it gave us an opportunity to have professional people critique and comment on our stuff no matter how amateur we were.
Besides that..I can tell you that I am shooting a music video and preparing to shoot a commercial and the workshop was incredibly helpful to prepare me for this task.Ty Mitchell
